Inspiration 16
I read a quote in a magazine today that said, "being afraid of color is like being afraid of being happy". So true isn't it?!
1. I recently found Kate Sutton's wonderful work via print & pattern's blog. I'm completely smitten with the style of her illustration, they remind me so much of the vintage children's books I grew up with.
Kate's offering up some wonderful little treasures like this collage in her etsy shop too!
2. I couldn't help but order a copy of Onishi Junko's book after seeing the gorgeous bags that Juju's been making. They've completely captivated my imagination, I keep finding myself going back to admire them. Look at all of the wonderful ways she combines textile patterns, color, and texture. They're so wonderfully unique!
3. I found this silkscreened bedspread imported from India last year at a cute shop in old towne Pasadena. Now it's sewn into a large curtain to hide our laundry closet in the kitchen. I'd been searching for some complimenting wallpaper for the area above all of the white paneling that I've been painting and remembered this great pattern I'd seen in Domino magazine last year from Tapettitalo. I opted for the subtle grey and white cherry blossoms. I've been feeling so picky about choosing wallpaper, it feels like I'm giving the house a semi-permanent tattoo. I was so happy when I remembered this, since I know it's a pattern that I can live with for awhile.
4. This moss garden on a cake platter comes from the most recent issue of Better Home's and Gardens, they say it's Alice worthy... and I agree! After our move to Oregon, I have a whole new appreciation for moss. I've been collecting different types and utilizing them in miniature gardens. I think this example is really clever!

Starting over again with another old house that's a fixer, has left me wondering "why? why? why?!" Especially when dealing with bad DIY from the 70's. Certain thoughts have kept me going though. I know all too well that rennovation takes a lot of time, hard work, and patience. But somedays I'm left with the feeling that maybe what I really need is the will & strength of 10 Greek gods to get me through it!
Lately I've been painting out the dingy dark paneling in our kitchen. As I've been getting lost in the flow of it, the ideas have been coming to me of what should come next.
I painted the interior of the cabinet in the same aqua as my studio. I'll be adding small halogen lights inside, and new glass gumdrop knobs.
I love the way light reflects off white walls. It's such a simple fix for a clean and fresh makeover. It's definitely working in helping me hang on until we're able to build our dream kitchen someday.
See that? Even the butterflies look happy.
The before picture is from the last owner, if only you could glimpse the odd things she was displaying in that cabinet!
