Since our move I often find myself missing things of the familiar. Silly things that were once so accessible I would've never thought twice about them. Like five minute drives to Target, and escalators. (Yes, you read that right. I miss escalators!) But on the flipside one of the best things I can atest to about moving out of state is that there are an abundance of things to do that we've never done before.
This Sunday we decided to take a drive, blissed out by the sunny weather we headed across the bridge that crosses the Columbia river into Washington state to go see the lighthouse at Cape Disappointment.
Amazing how Shawn talked me into hiking with the bad shoes I was wearing, up the hill and down again. But even out of breath, with shoelaces that begrudgingly kept untying themselves it was so worth it. It always is. When I really stop to think about it, Target and escalators were a pretty good trade off. Just look at all of the beauty that surrounds us here, we definitely made out like bandits.
Here are a few photos of our garden's "mystery bulbs" that I had been wondering about. It turns out (the hundreds of green stems) were all bluebells waiting to open. Utterly enchanting. I love the sea of endless color, I wish I could better capture it on film to mirror the way it looks in person.
I hadn't realized just how out of date my Projects section had become on this website. I built it back around 2002, crazy how quick time flies. It's in dire need of broken link fixes and new material. This week I'll be updating with fresh photos and links in the miniature section. Big thanks to Jill, for reminding me!
My very talented friend Monica tagged me this week with a "thinking blog award" meme. Such a flattering, and cute post! I love the little mac icons with screen captures she made. (I think Monica was a graphic designer in another life! She's so incredibly witty too, have you read about the adventure's of mimi?!)
As a graphic designer, I love looking at blogs that feed my visual senses. It's been hard thinking of five favorites, that I haven't yet mentioned here before since I'm always constantly linking to people and websites that inspire me to share with you. So, I began to think about the blogs I love to hit when I'm looking for color and pattern inspiration. I don't know any of these bloggers, so I'm not tagging them... but if anyone would like to carry the torch and talk about five blogs that inspire them, please do pass on the links, I know I'd love to read about them!
2. Love Forever's blog covers all good things. From amazing links to other artists like Rebecca Purcell to wardrobe refashion . What's not to love?!
3. NOTCOT: for your ideas + aesthetics + amusement
You could spend hours browsing through this goldmine of obscure and fascinating links.
4. Print and Pattern is a great inspirational resource for designers, and illustrators. I love looking at all of the beautiful packaging and textiles from around the world.
5. Free People shows you all of the behind the scenes magic from their amazing boutique stores. I love getting to see the process behind creating all of their thematic displays and getting sneak peeks at the original artwork that their graphic designer makes by hand before transforming into digital collage for their catalogs. Amazing!
About an hour ago I was just sitting here in complete admiration over Yvonne's beautiful Easter decorations posted on flickr. And just minutes later found this wonderfully wrapped thank you package from her, filled with Easter treats and Dahlia bulbs from the Netherlands.
To find a package on the front doorstep on a holiday is so magical. (This is the second time this has happened, we also recieved a hand delivered package through our mail carrier on Christmas morning.) Even especially more so, since we aren't living close enough to visit family like we normally would. It really made the day special.
