In less than two weeks I'll be meeting up with a really fabulous group of friends (Giao, Hope, Jess, Yvonne, and Leslie) who so far I've only known through the internet, in the fabulous mecca that is New York! Back in January when I was invited for this blogging meet-up I strongly sensed that, if I declined I would deeply regret missing out on this adventure. How many times in your life are you thrown these chances?! Barely thinking twice I threw my hand in the circle and bought a plane ticket. I've always believed in fate, and taking risks... When you throw those two elements together you're guaranteed the ride of your life.
So it began, the planning, the purchasing, the cross-country and international phone calls... and now finally after months of preparation the build-up is at it's peak. It's all happening soon!
The lovely "Miss Leslie" of Rubber-sol and I had planned a little meet-up this weekend, so we'd have a chance to get together before we set out to travel cross country. We drove out to Santa Monica yesterday in the early evening with our husbands, and connected at 3rd street promenade just as a street performer outside Urban Outfitters was preparing his narrow escape out of a straight jacket, chains, and padlocks. When he started writhing on the sidewalk with a blue face we knew it was time to move on... we all may have been scarred for life from that terrible sight but at least it was memorable!
Shawn and I immediately felt so comfortable with Leslie and Hank, they are such a fun couple to hang out with.
highlights of our meet-up included:
 Visiting shops like Anthropologie.
A really great Italian dinner with a view of the ocean, where we saw "cockles" on the menu. Hank had guessed it was a valve of the heart... so close!
Skeeball (I have an addiction, and may need intervention sometime soon) at the amusement park on the pier. Hank said he wasn't any good, yet pretty much whipped Leslie and I at this game.
Laughing at Shawn who disappeared while we were playing skee ball, then came back to us just a few minutes later with hundreds of prize tickets draped over his arms. While we looked down at our measly winnings. So typical!
Watching really coordinated gamers play dance dance revolution, and later watching a break dancer spin on his hands 80's style on the pier.
At the end of the night... walking up and down the flights of stairs from three different parking garages in a frenzy. We had forgotten where our cars were, so funny!
Next time I meet Leslie, will be in the wee hours of morning at the airport ....New York here we come!
The images in this post are details from the pages I did recently for the "Believe" theme of collective souls collaborative art journals. Now it's in the talented hands of Cassi of Bella Dia...so stay tuned!
Also, just in case you might of missed it you can also find me writing about my flea market finds, along with 6 very talented ladies at Tag Sale Tales!
