Over the weekend I had a(nother) momentary lapse of sanity, and purchased this yellow canary. I know...I said no more birds...after this one I'm really finished, I swear. I must have an insatiable need to nurture things. I was spurred on by this really great bird shop that I found recently, where I noticed that the owner had a Chinese bamboo cage like one I already had with a bird actually living in it. It was all downhill for me after that, my mind was burning with the thought that I couldn't have this fantastically ornate cage just sitting in my living room empty. So when I was going to the pet store to buy food I came home with this little guy. I named him Pipen, after one of my favorite little hobbits. The bad thing about birds, is that they are really messy eaters (even when they are eating out of really cute tiny porcelain Chinese cups), so I had the idea to sew up a really flashy looking seed guard out of some red silk brocade I had recently purchased. I quite like it, this is one bird with posh surroundings.
My last post about the artwork by the duo "container", really inspired me to just stop for a moment and pull out my sketchbook and draw those crazy doodles that I've always loved. Further inspiration came from a recent Urban Outfitters catalog, where they use clip art over photography. So I played a bit with that idea using a photo I recently took of Jerry sleeping (click on the photo to view larger). I like it. It makes me want to redesign my whole website now with edgy doodles & collage mixed with photography. The doodles also really lend themselves well to making new print gocco screens too of course. A few days ago, I played around with using one of them as an abstract background...then layering it with metallic butterflies. They're destined to be included in September scrap packs, with a few other special goodies...too soon to reveal, but never too soon to tease!
